AMP 40S Design Overview

Automatic central pressurized lubrication

This system works with two separate lube circuits: a circulation lube system for crankshaft and pitman bearings, and a once-through system for all other lube points.

Equipped with electrically monitored progressive distributors and pre-lube system with timer-controlled interlock to ensure proper pre-lubrication.

The system is self-monitoring. It tells the operator whenever oil is empty. Shuts off the machine automatically if trouble is not corrected within a preset time.

Overarm-type Main Slide

The long overarm slide has guides in front of and behind the crankshaft. This ensures precise tool alignment even under off-center loading.

The guides have bronze liners running on hardened composite steel liners on the bedframe. Front guideways have labyrinth seals to keep out dirt and cooling water.

Box-type bedframe

The closed, box-type bedframe is a one-piece alloy steel casting, stress-relieved and heat treated, built for extreme rigidity.

Variable-speed drive

The thyristor-fed DC motor allows you to select the right speed for every job between 90 and 150 strokes per minute. And there's a slow speed for both forward and reverse for setting up.

A disk brake engages automatically when the machine stops so that the weight of the pitman cannot cause uncontrolled machine movements.

The drive train from motor to crankshaft consists of V-belts, flywheel, clutch and gear unit.

The big gear wheel is mounted on the crankshaft with annular clamping assemblies. It can be turned on the shaft to change the teeth that take the load.

Hydraulic clutch/brake
The clutch is engaged hydraulically and the brake is applied by spring pressure. Moving parts run in oil to minimize wear. In spite of high inertia forces and high speed, the brake stops the machine dead within 90 degrees of a crankshaft turn.

Extra-wide crankshaft and twin pitman

The crankshaft with its extra-wide crank and the H-shaped twin pitman support the forming loads over the entire width of the four forming stations. Even off-center loading cannot impair the accuracy of the tool alignment.
