Three Forming Stations

The first station
The blank is usually squared up here, to assure uniform metal distribution and to spring off the last bits of scale.

This operation is either done by pancaking -- or inside the die. Closed-die upsetting lets the metal move out against the die wall, which produces a concentric blank with a defined contour as reference configuration for the next operation.

The second station
The die pocket here is larger than the others to accept an extra-strong die assembly.

The third station
This third station is normally used for hole piercing. But you can also do closed-die forming, sizing or trimming.

TOOL AREA WITH CUTTING STATION (REAR) AND THE THREE FORMING STATIONS IN A HORIZONTAL ROW. THE PUNCHES FORCE THE BLANKS INTO THE DIES TO GIVE THEM THE DESIRED SHAPE.

Finished parts and waste
Finished parts and waste drop out separately. The pierced parts are stripped off the punch at the third station and slide right onto the conveyor in the foundation. The punched-out slugs are pushed through the die and drop into a separate chute.
