High-Speed Shearing System

Don't Forget:

Tighter Volume Distribution
A coldformed part can only be as precise as the blank it was made from. That's why the Coldmatic has a patented high speed shearing system that delivers highly accurate cut-offs with consistent volumes.

Square cut-offs
The high-speed shearing system severs the wire so fast that the metal doesn't have time to distort. That's why the cut-offs are almost perfectly square, with smooth shear surfaces and none of the typical serrations or cracks.

Volume variation is only about half that of conventionally sheared cut-offs. The result from the shear test (below) with cut-offs 1 diameter long shows 0.5% volume variation.

Precision and Tools

How the system works
The tools last longer, because reduced volume variation means less alternating stress on punches and dies. Moreover, the right-angle cut-offs reduce the lateral forces acting on the punches, which also prolongs tool life.

Precision blanks like these, with nearly parallel cuts, are a lot easier to form into precision parts.

Unlike conventional shearing systems, which start the shearing motion from a standstill, this system has already reached maximum velocity when the shearing operation begins.

After the cut, the shearing slide is slowed down to a smooth stop precisely in front of the loading station. The cut-off is pushed out of the cutter quill into the waiting gripper, which carries it to the first die.

Hydraulic wire pullback prevents burrs
The cut-off length is monitored electronically. If a cut-off is too short, the machine stops automatically. The wire stop that determines cut-off length can be adjusted during production. If you want to check the cut-off, just press a button to let one drop out of the first gripper. Wire ends are discarded the same way.

The device pulls the wire back after each stroke to keep the wire face away from the cutter blade after shearing.

This pulling-back motion prevents the cutter quill from scraping the wire face as the cutter returns after shearing, producing a smooth, burr-free cut-off face.

(The big AKP 5-5 Coldmatic does not need this pullback device because the shearing conditions are different.)
STRIKER HEAD OF SHEARING SYSTEM

The striker head (cam-operated and counter balanced) accelerates the shearing slide instantaneously to make the cut at maximum velocity.
